The 2012 Qingdao International Sea Festival, the only oceanic festival in China, was held at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center on July 20th, with the theme of “inviting the world to enjoy a blue oceanic feast”. The festival features 36 activities across six categories: ocean culture, ocean tourism, maritime sports, ocean sciences, blue economy and navy shows. It will last about 16 days, till August 4th, 2012.
The Qingdao Sea Festival was founded in 1999. It aims at spreading the Olympic spirit, and it now also serves as a platform for promoting the communication and cooperation among global marine science and technology, ocean tourism, ocean culture, water sports and others fields.
Meanwhile, this event is also part of the major events taking place in Qingdao, attracting each year a large number of tourists from China and abroad, considerably boosting the passenger traffic in Qingdao Airport in the summer season.
